SpaceX Starlink Internet Review in 2022

SpaceX Starlink Internet has evolved from Elon Musk’s futuristic concept into a satellite-based broadband internet provider that offers fast speeds (50-500 Mbps) and unlimited data for $110. dollars to $500 a month, depending on whether you want residential, RV, or satellite business Internet.

Starlink Internet works best for people living in rural or remote areas that don’t have fixed Internet options like DSL, cable, or fiber. Last year, we mapped the fastest and slowest rural cities in the US to determine where Starlink could deliver the most value.

SpaceX Starlink Internet Review

Pros

  • Unlimited satellite internet data
  • No cancellation fees
  • The low monthly cost for standard Starlink service ($110.00/mo.)
  • Lower latency than Viasat and HughesNet

Cons

  • Not available nationwide like Viasat and HughesNet
  • $599.00–$2,500.00 one-time hardware fee
  • Service can be spotty due to LEO (low-Earth orbit) technology
  • Long wait times for service

    How can you get Starlink?

You can get Starlink Internet by ordering on the Starlink website. Once Starlink has internet coverage and bandwidth capacity in your area, you can get the Starlink kit directly to your home within 2 weeks.1If Starlink isn’t available in your area yet, you can still place your order and secure your spot on the waitlist by paying a deposit of between $99 and $500, depending on how you want to use the service.

Standard Starlink, Starlink RV Internet, or Starlink Business. The easiest way to know when you can get Starlink is to enter your address on the Starlink website. If you’re still unsure about boarding the Starlink satellite, we’ll help you decide. Below, we cover all the details you need to know about Starlink internet plans, pricing, setup, availability, and more in this Starlink review. We’ll also see how Starlink compares to existing satellite internet providers like Viasat and HughesNet and whether you should join Starlink Business.

    Data

    Winner: Starlink

The biggest difference you will see when comparing Starlink with Viasat and HughesNet is the monthly data allocation. Starlink offers unlimited data and Viasat and HughesNet have data limits. While Viasat and HughesNet also technically offer unlimited data, your speeds will slow down significantly (nearly unusable speeds) once you reach your plan’s data limit.

If you’ve had satellite internet in the past, you know that getting enough data can be an issue, especially if you’re streaming over satellite internet or using a lot of data on Zoom. Starlink removes all data worries with one simple word:
infinite. It’s a word you don’t often hear in the rural internet world. Starlink’s unlimited data combined with its above-average broadband speeds are by far its most compelling features. They are an important part of Elon Musk’s mission to bring better internet options to underserved areas around the world.

    Starlink availability

    Winner: Viasat and HughesNet

SpaceX Starlink Internet currently fails to address one of the rural internet communities’ most important concerns: Availability. Starlink regularly uses SpaceX rockets to launch more satellites to increase global availability (the latest total is 2,000).2 But there is still a significant gap in Starlink’s internet coverage compared to other satellites. established national satellite providers such as Viasat and HughesNet.You can sign up for Starlink even if it’s not fully available in your region.

But you will have to deposit $99.00 and wait more months than expected due to supply chain issues. SpaceX Starlink Internet specifically cited these issues as chip and silicon shortages. You are at the bottom of the list. If you need satellite internet right now, use Viasat or HughesNet.

    SpaceX Starlink Internet Equipment

    Winner: Viasat and HughesNet

Another obvious difference concerns the cost of equipment. Starlink requires you to pay between $599 and $2,500 upfront for the Starlink kit (plus shipping). The price difference depends on whether you opt-in to Starlink Business or not. Viasat and HughesNet offer more affordable rental options. Monthly plan costs can also be lower with Viasat and HughesNet, depending on the plan you choose. That said, both require a 2-year contract while Starlink does not require a contract and does not charge a setup fee. Starlink will even refund you if you return the device in good condition and cancel it within 30 days.

    SpaceX Starlink Internet Download speed

    Winner: Starlink and Viasat

While on paper it looks like Starlink beats Viasat in speed, Viasat isn’t far behind at 100 Mbps. But with the recent addition of Starlink Business, Starlink has blown Viasat away by offering incredible speeds of 500Mbps. That said, Viasat currently has a reputation for reliable service and reliable speeds. Starlink’s service is subject to service interruptions due to ongoing networking and other connectivity issues inherent in low-Earth orbit technology.
However, Starlink Business promises a stronger connection with priority bandwidth and weatherproof satellite internet equipment. Both HughesNet and Viasat plan to launch new satellites in the second half of 2022 that will provide internet speeds as fast as 150 Mbps along with increased data capacity. 4.5 But matching the Starlink Business advertised download speed of 500 Mbps would be difficult and possibly impossible for Viasat and HughesNet based on their current technology.

    Starlink internet plans

Starlink currently offers three internet packages:
Starlink, Starlink RV and Starlink Business. The download speeds of these plans range from 50 to 500 Mbps for $110 to $500 per month with unlimited data and no contracts or cancellation fees. You can even pause and resume your Starlink RV internet plan whenever you want.
It’s worth noting that Starlink’s availability is still very limited, across all of its plans, and the high equipment fees ($599 to $2,500). Starlink internet speeds have also been known to fluctuate drastically or drop completely, depending on where you live and if you have signal obstructions, like trees or structures around your home.
